Get StartedI have worked in software and computers for more than 40 years. I have been a software developer, engineering manager, solution architect, manager of solution architects, and now business development manager.
I have developed, consulted, and promoted embedded computing, enterprise software, databases, high performance computing, distributed applications, cloud technologies, and edge computing, and in industries including life sciences, healthcare, financial services, telecommunications, design and engineering, manufacturing, and public sector. I have both drawn and viewed many, many block diagrams.
I have worked at the boundaries of organizations, between departments, between seller and customer, and between partner companies. I have spent a lot of time making communications between organizations more effective and in emphasizing reasons to collaborate. Sometimes people use the same word to mean different things.
I have participated in and witnessed the rise and fall of many technologies and companies. The only constant is change.
My employers have ranged in size from 7 to 130,000 employees. Treat your organization as a system to understand and use.
I have been on teams distributed across three continents, and have worked effectively with coworkers, partners, and customers from different cultures. A starting point is making an effort to pronounce people's names properly. The first rule of effective participation in remote meetings is making sure everyone can hear you (unmute and speak up).
I began work without a college degree, at a time when graduate degrees in Computer Science were rare. I went back to school part time and received a Bachelor's degree in Natural Sciences from Harvard University's Extension School. My eight year old daughter attended my graduation. Now she is herself an undergraduate.
I am currently a teaching assistant in the "Cloud Security" course in the Harvard University Extension School's cybersecurity masters degree program.
